Johari Sykes-Ratliff, a Camden, New Jersey native, is a dedicated educator and advocate for student success. She holds dual undergraduate degrees in Law and Justice and Sociology from Rowan University. While completing her studies, she discovered her passion for education, leading her to a career in Early Childhood instruction.
With over 12 years of experience in the Camden City School District’s Office of Early Childhood, Johari has served in various roles, including Preschool Teacher, Master Teacher, and Lead Educator/School Administrator at two schools. Her leadership skills and commitment to educational excellence earned her a promotion to Lead Educator/District Supervisor. To further enhance her expertise, she returned to Rowan University, earning a master’s degree in School Administration and obtaining Principal and Supervisor Certifications from the State of New Jersey.
Currently, Johari is an Early Childhood Assistant Teaching Professor and Initial Teacher Preparation Coordinator for the BA in Education – Early Childhood Specialization at Rowan University’s College of Education. She is also pursuing a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership, with a focus on fostering innovative and equitable change in education through effective leadership and decision-making.
Passionate about student advocacy, Johari is dedicated to guiding and supporting students throughout their academic journeys. She prioritizes building meaningful relationships, offering motivation, and addressing individual challenges with a collaborative approach to ensure positive outcomes. Her commitment to equity, leadership, and lifelong learning continues to shape the future of education.
